What if I told you that until recently a market manager delegated some of his duties to a boy of six to seven years of age (it went on so long he had a birthday)? What if that boy was given responsibility way beyond his years? What if the lad inspired unease in traders and staff? What if an even younger girl was given power over traders' livelihoods? Now I'd have to be making all that up, right?
What happened was not the children's fault and I am not using their real names. I shall call the boy Dodger and the girl Rose. I shall call the market manager Barmy.
All that follows in the "Oliver" posts is true.

I have not left a comment on here to date - until now that is. I feel so strongly about this, that I could no longer keep silent. This is true. I witnessed this. Many of us traders know this to be true. I feel torn to be honest, because I am uncomfortable with the pursuit of any individual in this way - and that includes Barny. Having said that though, I am MORE uncomfortable with children being asked to do things that are totally inappropriate for them and things that are completely patronising for the traders to be on the receiving end of. I think we need to ask when is it OK to turn a blind eye and when is it just not. For me in this case, it is not right to turn a blind eye. I do not endorse this blog but I do think Greenwich Space Management, NB Real Estates and Greenwich Hospital Estates have a responsibility to investigate this situation. It is with regret that I leave this comment.
Sorry folks, I'm obviously thick, but what the hell are we talking about here...? Who is asking what children to do what?
Perhaps I was a bit too obscure here. I forgot that not everyone was here when these events were unfolding. All will become clear in posts over the next few days, starting later today.
To the first commenter on this post, I would say this. I understand that my approach to this blog makes you uncomfortable. I'm not wildly happy about being forced down this road myself. Like many I have kept my own counsel and said nothing while decent human beings are treated with contempt. I can't keep quiet about this any longer and I'm grateful for this way of expressing myself.
I am not seeking to pursue Barny as much as his employers who tolerate and encourage his behaviour. They have done him no favours by failing to constrain his wilder excesses. Every time an attempt has been made to effect a change through legitimate complaint, GSM/USM have stonewalled. They continue to defend the indefensible. Complaints have been made to Greenwich Hospital, who seem completely toothless.
Barny won't listen to complaints and his employers reject any complaint with absolute support, even going so far as to say they have never heard any complaints about him.
This blog isn't just about Barny, though given his pivotal role it may seem like it. It's about anything that directly makes traders' lives tougher than they need be. Barny isn't the cause of the market's sickness, but he's a hell of a symptom.
